What's up, guys. I am about to start a serious search for entry-level jobs in the oilfield, but I've been reading a lot of conflicting opinions online about how one should go about it, so maybe yous can help clarify a few things.

I'm 30, physically fit, no kids, no wife, currently in South Florida, willing to relocate or travel anywhere within the US. Dropped out of high school but got a G.E.D., and I am semi-literate. No felony convictions, no DUIs, have't gotten a ticket in over five years, drug free. I've been working as an electrician for the past seven years, but I never went through a formal apprenticeship, all my training is hands-on, so I don't have the credentials to command a decent salary in the field. Before that I worked as a laborer for a cement mason; I'm used to back-breaking work.

What Does A Floorhand Do

Anyway, the questions: Will the experience I have in construction help me out at all in the application process? (I have run jackhammers, ditch witches, bobcats, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, drove and operated bucket trucks, can read blueprints, wiring diagrams, etc.) Should I take a floorhand training course and get all my certs before I apply, or would I be wasting my money? (I was looking at Williston State College or McMurry training center in Wyoming) I'm gonna start submitting online apps today, but if nothing pans out, what should I do? I'm a little leery of driving half way across the country with no prospects, just praying that I get a job, as I am working on a limited budget. And just any other general advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
